40 & Fabulous Style Guide

In my personal stylist experience, many women look to update to their wardrobe at age 40.  How do you make updates but keep your youthful and stylish personality?  It’s about purchasing what you love and being comfortable without sacrificing style.  Here are a few tips for looking “fab” after 40.

Adapt to Trends

Adapt versus adopt to trends. If you see something cool in Forever 21 while shopping with your teenager, adapt the same trend in another store, like Banana Republic, J. Jill, Belk or Macys.  There is nothing cooler than having your teenager trying to steal items in your closet because you’re on trend.

Choose the Right Shoe

Walking in painful shoes may not be ideal.  Seek stores with creative style options, but have technology to give the proper arch support.  As far as style, opt for designs with cutouts and open details to give a youthful look to your legs.

Find the Perfect Jeans

Get fitted for a new pair of jeans!  Madewell is a great denim destination at the mall.  Good tip!  Bring your old jeans (any style or color) and receive $20 off any new pair of jeans.

Add Color

For a youthful pizzaz, test out bright colors. Keep things simple with one shade or have fun with multiple colors. Try punches of color in your handbag and shoes.

Structured Jackets

Jackets are kryptonite!  A great leather jacket can instantly turn any outfit into a much cooler option.  Try pairing dressy separates with tough leather; if you need a more traditional suit jacket for work, look for stylish details like gold hardware, colorful tweed or even leather details.

Mix and Match Accessories

Mix up your jewelry sets!  One suggestion: mix and match tones like silver and gold.  Charm bracelets are a definite youthful and stylish jewelry piece.  Pandora has a great selection of charms and bracelets for every style.
