Tips for buying shoes for the whole family

A great time to take inventory on your family’s wardrobe is around the time the kids go back to school.  As you sort and edit everyone’s closet, it’s important to take into account what activities your family enjoys and shop appropriately.  Here are a few style tips and places at Crabtree Valley Mall to shop for shoes for the whole family:

SHOE SHOPPING TIPS FOR MOM

The key to shopping for mom is to think duality.  Find shoes that can take you from day to night, or corporate to casual. If you’re a Mom on the go and you find yourself in heels, look for a quality pair of ballet flats that can easily be tucked into your pocketbook or work bag when your you are in need of comfort. Remember, don’t sacrifice on style, find a pair that works well with the majority of your wardrobe.

SHOE SHOPPING TIPS FOR DAD

Dads sometimes get the short end of the stick when it comes to shoe shopping.  When it comes to shoes for men it’s about quality versus quantity.  Remember, there are a great deal of sports-specific shoes that are fantastic for training in, but do not translate as well into day to day life.  Help Dad out by purchasing a separate casual shoe for everyday activities.

SHOE SHOPpING TIPS FOR THE KIDS

When it comes to buying shoes for kids it can get tricky.  Kids grow out of shoes so quickly.  They change activities from year to year. One moment you need cleats for baseball the next you need basketball sneakers.  Spend more money on the everyday shoes and the shoes that your kids will need for special activities like soccer, horseback riding, running etc. When it comes to shoes for the weekend or for playtime, value is the better option since these shoes aren’t worn often.   Take inventory of all of your kids events and activities for the upcoming year and plan accordingly.  Pay close attention to back to school sales and stock up for the year.

Here are a few general tips for shoe buying

Buy shoes true to size.  Once you begin to walk in your shoes they will loosen up a little but not enough to buy a smaller size in hopes they will stretch out.

If you cannot walk in it, don’t buy it. Search for shoes that are not only stylish but practical.

Mix it up. Purchase a few trendy shoes along with a few classics.  The trendy shoes will keep you hip and stylish for the season and the classics will last longer.  Spend a little more money on classic style shoes.

Try on three sizes.  Your feet size changes with the season. In the summer your feet are bigger, so purchase a size up.  Remember, all shoe designers, and styles are not created equally.  Ask the sales associate to help you fit your shoes properly for the best shoe buying experience.
