Some kids are cool from the start. They’re into items like fedoras, graphic tees and suspenders. To add formality for picture day and special occasions dress up the look with patterned oxford shirts with bowties and a pair of cool boots.

It’s all the rage to buy clothes already ripped and torn, but it’s being done in a sensible and cool way, so parents don’t panic.  Look for shredded knees, dying and patches in denim pieces like jeans, jackets and shirts. Expect to see these paired with lumberjack-esque checkered shirts, cute miniature leather jackets, and Doc Martens.

Get ready for the sequins and glitter overload!  The popular trend this season for girls is lots of shimmer and shine.  Pair shimmer pieces with pretty patterns, lace, and ribbon.  Look for accessories like headbands and charm bracelets.  Pair the look with ballet flats in metallic and cute studs for your toddler or tween.

It’s recess all day long! Athleisure is making its way into the classroom. The key to this trend is to dress up the comfortable, casual gym-inspired pieces to make it cool and pulled together.  For girls, a cute pair of yoga pants paired with a cardigan and ballet flats is comfortable and stylish. While boys can wear sweatpants with a high top sneaker and button down shirt under a sweatshirt for a pulled-together school look.

Search for lots of colorful bottoms, and loud graphic tees. Focus on all things fun and playful. Find your favorite characters illustrated on jackets, bright converse with graphic prints. Fun mixed media tops, dresses and bold cheeky accessories. Your student is sure to make a statement with these pieces.

BORN TO BE WILD! (animal prints)

Animal prints are not new, but the way kids are wearing them now is sure to make a fashion statement. Pair animal prints with coordinating prints for a mix of patterns. Think checkerboard meets zebra. It’s a fun way to add color to your preschoolers' first days in the classroom.

The utilitarian trend is making its way down the halls this semester in a creative way.  Pieces to purchase: cargo pants or skirts, jackets with epaulets and metal buttons, camouflage, and riding boots. These pieces’ pair well with other trends on the list.  The contrast of tough and girly is nice or for boys, pair a military piece with a hipster element.

Although some of the trends on the list may lend itself to “REBEL RULES,” the rule is about color versus the pieces. This trend for the upcoming season is full of black and white graphics with hand stamped effects on t-shirts, pants, dress, and jackets.  Find this trend in faux leather, denim and soft textiles for sweat suits.

Let your imagination run wild! This trend focuses on pieces that look like they are for playtime.  Hand painted graphic tees, bear hoodies with faux animal appliques, cute characters and color blocking bright colors for fall!

Cool Uniforms

The private school-kid styles are nicely juxtaposed with quirky pieces to add individuality all while staying within the guidelines of the dress code. Switch out boring shoes for ballet flats and sneakers with attitude.  Look for jackets, accessories and backpacks that add style to tradition.
